High-pressure pump (high-pressure piston pump) in plunger design uses reciprocating cylindrical pistons (plungers) inside cylinders, forcing fluid through check-valve assemblies to generate very high pressure (up to ~3,000 bar). Multi-plunger configurations (triplex/quintuplex) deliver uniform flow and durability for continuous operation.
Applications: high-pressure water jetting, waterjet cutting, hydro-demolition (concrete breaking), descaling, pipeline/vessel hydrotesting, and high-pressure hydraulics. Flow rate and pressure trade off against each other — select based on the specific operating point.
Define pressure & flow rate

Select plunger configuration & drive
Triplex/quintuplex based on flow uniformity and power requirements; electric motor or diesel engine drive depending on available power source and mobility needs.

High-pressure plunger pump or centrifugal pump?
When very high pressure is required, a positive-displacement plunger pump is the appropriate choice; centrifugal pumps are suited to high flow rates at moderate pressure.

Essentially they belong to the same family: a 'high-pressure piston pump' is a plunger pump — using a cylindrical piston (plunger) reciprocating to generate very high pressure. Centrifugal pumps are efficient at high flow rates and moderate head; at very high pressures their efficiency drops significantly. Piston/plunger pumps (positive displacement) maintain high efficiency at high pressure and are therefore suited to water jetting, waterjet cutting, and hydrotesting.
Triplex has 3 plungers, quintuplex has 5 plungers. More plungers produce more uniform flow (lower pressure pulsation) and better load distribution, suitable for higher power and continuous duty.
